CHILD CARE:
Regional Enrichment Centers – Childcare for Essential Workers
If you live in New York City and need childcare options while schools closed
The NYC Department of Education has opened Regional Enrichment Centers (RECs) throughout the city and across the boroughs from Monday through Friday, 7:30am to 6:00pm. These RECs have been put in place to provide safe educational environments for children of parents who are working on the front lines during this COVID-19 crisis. RECs are now available to grocery store, pharmacy, and food workers who are scheduled to work during times the Centers are open that need a safe place for their children to learn and stay during school closures. As essential workers, members of Local 342 are eligible to take their children to these local education centers. To learn more about RECs or to find a REC located near you visit https://www.schools.nyc.gov/enrollment/enrollment-help/regional-enrichment-centers
NYC Department of Education iPad Devices for remote Learning
The City of New York Department of Education has a remote learning device program to help students stay connected by lending internet enabled iPads to support remote learning for students.
If you would like to request a device you must fill out a request form online at https://coronovirus.schools.nyc/RemoteLearningDevice
After you fill out the form the DOE will use the contact information you provide to get in touch with you to discuss when and where you can pick up a device.
Priority will be given to students most in need, and all devices are granted on a temporary basis and will later need to be returned. There is a limit of one device per student.
